Thankfulness
We live today in a very thankless world. We talk to our friends, and agree with them that we live in a thankless world, and every time it is brought up we agree that people around us are thankless. However we need to take a look into that mirror of our soul and take notice to the shovel in our hands. What is this shovel I am referring to? The shovel that we use to throw everything over our shoulder, to everyone else. We read the Bible, we hear the sermons, and instead of applying it to your life, you pass it to someone else, never letting the Holy Spirit speak to you. So remember, I am speaking to you, so please let the Holy Spirit do the same. Why do we do this? Jeremiah 17:9 says The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? That is why we must keep ourselves in check every day. That is also why we con’t work our way to heaven. If we could, then we would go to heaven and brag about how good we were.
God tells us in ROMANS what the cost of not being thankful is. Chapter 1 gives us this great list, and tells us that it started because of thanklessness. So what should I be thankful for? Let’s start with what we have to eat and drink. My preacher went to India to preach in underground churches.
The people had gladly sacrificed and went without, to give them a cup of black beans and rice, while we complain about having to eat sandwiches again, or whatever. You fill in the food. We should be thankful that we have food to eat. Deuteronomy 8:10 When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee. Are you thankful for your spouse? If not, don’t be surprised when they go find someone who is. Well we just don’t agree with each other. You ever decide to do something, and then change your mind? You don’t agree with you all the time either, and you expect him or her to? With all your reasons, God still says in Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD. We don’t get some of our prayers answered because of no thankfulness. God says in Psalms 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Why should God give you something when you aren’t thankful for what you have already? Take note to this statement. The sin that you do not destroy WILL destroy you. Saul did not do as God commanded. God told him to utterly destroy Amalek but he let Agag live, and his descendants have been causing chaos ever since.
God tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Give thanks for the bad as well as the good. Be thankful when you can’t see, for God says “My grace is sufficient for thee” When a parent or a loved one is on their death bed, be thankful that God let you borrow them for as long as He did. If we can learn to be thankful for the bad things, just think how thankful we can be for the good. Many people misquote or misunderstand God and think that Romans 8:28 says that all things are good, but that is not what it says. It says that all the good and all the bad will work TOGETHER for somebody’s good, so learn to be thankful for all things. We ALL need work in this area. And I am especially thankful that you read this article. Thank you, and may God bless you all!!!
