It's My Desire
Psalms 27:1-4 <<A Psalm of David.>> The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
As we live this life, we are going to have heartache and fear, but if we love the Lord, He will calm our fears.
Psalms 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
When we think of dying we get fearful. If we are born again, there is no fear in the results of death (heaven) but the unknown part of dying. Going for another breath and it not being there; but God in His grace takes away that fear when it is time to die, and gives us peace. I have experienced it once and it is unexplainable
When we face trials in our life, it is fearful. That is why it is so hard to do right. We fear what man might say. We fear rejection from our family and friends. That is why many people will not witness for Christ; because they fear being rejected of men, whereas others won’t do it because they don’t know what the Bible says because they don’t read it.
God will cause our enemies to fear. Remember Jericho. The spies went in and went to Rehabs’ house and she said, when you came before the people of the city’s hearts did melt because of fear.
2 Kings 6:15-18 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
Can I say that those who do not read the Bible have no peace? Psalms 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
Great peace have they which love thy law. Don’t tell me you love Gods’ law, yet you go day after day, week after week without reading it. You can get it on cd and listen to it, but you won’t. The cd sits on your dresser just like your Bible does if you have one. That is why you have no peace. That is why you fear death. Let me ask you this, why should God take your fear from you?
David said, one thing have I desired of the Lord. What do you desire. If God were to give you a blank check in open prayer, and say, whatever you desire, I will do it; what would you ask for? He did that to several people in the Bible. If He did it for you, would you use it for Godly reasons, or worldly desires? Would your desires be selfish, or not? David says the one thing that he desires was to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his “LIFE”. I know many who profess that they would gladly die for the cause of Christ, yet they won’t live for Him. Let me make a couple of statements here. First, if you won’t live for God, you sure wouldn’t be willing to die for Him Secondly, God doesn’t want you to die for Him, you are more useful, living for Him. If He didn’t want you to live for Him, He would have killed you the day you got saved. The fact is you don’t want to live for Him because it might inconvenience you. You might have to read your Bible, or pray. Or God forbid, you might have to give up something you really like. Paul said he dies daily. In other words, he had a will, and God had a will, and if they didn’t line up, he did what God wanted instead. He als0 desired to enquire in His temple. He wanted to check with God every time he was about to do something, because he didn’t want to break God’s heart. Most people today live by the adage easier to get forgiveness the permission. Can I tell you that they didn’t get that from reading their Bible? David wanted to get God’s permission before he did what he wanted to do. He did what we read in Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Why can I enquire in His temple? Because He told me I could come boldly, so I do. And because I can come boldly unto the throne of grace, I can dwell in the house of the Lord, all the days of my life. This means that we can stay close to God, even when we are not in church. I wonder if maybe that was why it says he was a man after God’s own heart?
